Progressive employers are prioritising their people’s psychological wellbeing. Our training will bolster your bid to build a mentally healthy workplace.
Speak to an expert >Prominent people around the world have been opening up mainstream conversations about mental health in recent years. As a result, many of us are now more aware of those around us struggling with depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions. And we might even feel emboldened to seek help for our own problems.
Against that wider cultural backdrop, the organisations we work with here at Axiom are increasingly turning their attention to the mental health of their people.
Why you should invest in improving mental health in the workplace
For a start, it makes business sense. Mental health influences how we perform at work, including our decisions and our interactions with colleagues and customers. And we also know that, with the right support, an individual with a mental health problem can still thrive at work.
According to analysis by Deloitte1, mental health issues cost UK employers up to £56 billion a year. The upside of that stark statistic is that there’s much go be gained by organisations that get to grips with the issue. For every £1 employers spend on the drive to improve mental health in the workplace, Deloitte say they get back £5.30. This payback comes via lower sickness and staff turnover as well as improved job performance.
Investing in mental health in the workplace is not only the smart thing to do, it’s also the right thing to do. Research by Business in the Community2 found that four in ten UK employees had experienced mental health symptoms related to work in the preceding year. The human cost is huge, with poor mental health impacting the lives of all those millions of individuals as well as their family and friends. Alleviating that suffering is an ethical imperative.
Hardly surprising, then, that organisations are making their people’s psychological wellbeing a priority. Axiom are part of that endeavour.
