United Utilities case study

United Utilities logoA picture is worth 1,000 words

As part of an award-winning programme for United Utilities, we developed a high-impact visual analogy to launch the company’s new strategy.

This football-themed Big Picture was the centrepiece of a major and highly participative event for company leaders during which they identified key steps needed to deliver the strategy and how these fitted together.

We designed and facilitated the event, and used the latest interactive technology to brainstorm ideas and agree an action plan for immediate implementation. We even arranged for England’s 1966 World Cup hat-trick hero Geoff Hurst to be the after dinner speaker at the event.

To ensure the impact of the event was felt company-wide, we wrote and designed a cascade briefing pack for communication of the key messages. We trained managers on how to deliver these briefings, and on how they could become better communicators more generally.

In the months since, we have produced a range of follow-up materials based on the United Goal theme to update employees on progress on the strategy.

The initiative scooped a gold award at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations PRide Awards North West.
