Credentials

My journey into equity, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I) began back in 1995. The Disability Discrimination Act had just passed, and HSBC invited me to lead on making the bank more accessible. This then spearheaded me into leading on a range of interventions across the spectrum of diversity and inclusion. I was honoured to be the first Chair of the then Inter-Bank Diversity Forum.

That six-year stint springboarded me into a flourishing ED&I career, which has seen me develop specific expertise in consciously inclusive leadership, race and anti-racism, cognitive biases and microaggressions, stereotype threat, structural privilege, consciously inclusive strategic planning, and operational implementation.

As a consultant I help leaders and organisations create a high-performance culture of belonging, by maximising workforce diversity through conscious inclusion. I’ve worked across a broad range of sectors and with clients of all sizes, undertaking projects including sourcing diverse talent pipelines, leading strategic interventions, and inclusion related research.

My book “Demystifying Diversity” co-authored with Gamiel Yafai is now in its second edition and I’m currently penning two more.

Likes

Travelling. I’ve stepped foot on nearly every continent. I find it fascinating to observe the stigmas and inclusiveness of different countries and cultures.

Despite its lack of ethnic diversity, Slovakia feels like I’m going home each time I revisit, and I also think there’s something special about San Francisco.

Favourite film

The Green Mile. For me this movie brilliantly captures the power of humanity to be cruel as well as kind.
