How to ensure your messages light the way forward for your colleagues.
Simply spouting off your key strategic messages without considering the context in which they will land with your target audiences is doomed to failure.
Indeed, as Ken Haemer said “Designing a presentation without an audience in mind is like writing a love letter and addressing it ‘to whom it may concern’.”
The trick is spend time tuning in to and understanding the needs of your audience; then translate your messages to meet their needs, e.g. as an organisation, we want to ‘x’ and I know you’re concerned about ‘y’ which means we need to do ‘z’.
Straight talking
When communicating strategy with your entire workforce, avoid using jargon.
It might be appropriate in the rarified atmosphere of meetings at a senior level, but it is like a different language compared to the day-to-day conversations colleagues have.
The truth is that these are the folk who will actually deliver the strategy, so your job is to translate the corporate speak into straight talking plain-English.
