Feeling a sense of fatigue or dread as a leader? Keeping up with the pace of change, identifying what’s relevant in this information-swamped world, as well as managing a million other things can cause anxiety, stress, and burnout.
In recognition of all those brilliant leaders who are constantly swimming against the tide to build better teams, better businesses, and better versions of themselves, we offer six suggestions to help alleviate your stress.
Self-awareness: What are your stress signals?
By learning how you behave, react, and feel when you are under stress, you’ll understand when to step in to stop stress escalating. Invest time to get to know yourself.
Tendencies: Take a break
Under stress we tend to knuckle down, work longer, work harder. Ever notice though how you often have great ideas in the shower? Take a break – a change is as good as a rest.
Rumination: Focus on the present
Ruminating squanders our time and energy by focusing on what’s gone but can’t be changed. Attend to what’s in front of you right now – that can still be changed.
End game: Keep sight of your goals
Sometimes we get lost in the forest because we can’t see the wood for the trees. Focusing on your end game helps you keep sight of the big picture, doing the right work, and puts smaller setbacks into perspective.
Speak: A problem shared is a problem halved
A coach can hold a safe space for you to think and speak through a problem.
Strategy: Be strategic about where you invest your time
Swap the screen for a walk, swap the news for an inspirational podcast, and spend as much time with positive people as you can. Positivity is contagious. Feeling positive in your personal life can lift your mood and resilience in your professional one.
