Go out of your way to make someone’s day

Staff celebrating success

Accentuate the positives to motivate your people.

Many people feel their bosses only ever comment on what they are getting wrong. So, make a conscious effort to make someone’s day, catch them doing something right. Then congratulate them with some authentic, specific and positive feedback.

In fact, research tells us that by adopting positive leadership behaviours it is possible to double the productivity of colleagues in your team. Equally, less helpful leadership behaviours can halve their productivity. Indeed, people in the second camp might even resign, or worse still, resign and stay!
